My walk is pau!

I keep trying to sprout a seed.  Once I was successful.  It make a nice big plant–I named it Planty.  I don’t remember how it met its death–all my plants meet untimely demises.  So I save the seed from about one out of every five or so avocados I use and put in water with little toothpick props.  Then the cats  Hugo knocks it over (he has an obsession with seeking water from vessels other than his water bowl).  Or I just neglect to replace the water when it evaporates.

How did my kid make it to adulthood?  Way to go, Kate!  Obviously, she didn’t need to be watered. 

Anyway…this one has a root and I have great hope for it.

The sky at 0430 this morning.

I took my camera, but was uninspired.  I tried to get pictures of some birds.  They were uncooperative.  The sky over the ocean (harbor) at sunrise was not as lovely as one would hope.  I also took the wrong path and ended up on the street with a view of the recycling center instead of looping around the park.  By the time I walked back to my car it was (almost) a twenty-minute walk, so I didn’t take the other path.  I had pretty much given up on any photographic documentation, until I looked down on the path just before the parking lot and saw this:

I’m glad I looked.  I wouldn’t have enjoyed stepping on it!

Sometimes I think Caller ID should be just a tad more specific. 

It reminds me of a patient recently who told me that her last mammogram was in New Jersey:

    Me: Where was your last mammogram? 

   Patient: Last year.

    Me: Where?

    Patient:  New Jersey.

    Me: Where in New Jersey?

     Patient: New Jersey.

     Realizing I’m not getting anywhere, Me: What city?

     Patient:  New Jersey.

     Me:  What city?

     Patient:  New Jersey.  

Apparently there is only one mammography facility in New Jersey. Is there only one phone in Las Vegas?

So, I guess this could be a follow-up to my last post, where I was somehow led to photograph a bunch of bananas on my counter.  Three of those neglected bananas ended up in this happy loaf of banana bread yesterday morning. 

I used America’s Test Kitchen’s recipe for “The Best Banana Bread.”  And it is the best I’ve made in recent history. 

I rarely miss America’s Test Kitchen on TV every Saturday (although this week I did) and I bought the cookbook with the 2010 recipes.  Their website, however, requires a paid subscription.  You can get a 14-day free trial, so I suppose you could spend that two weeks downloading every recipe to your chosen media.  Just sayin’.

The recipes have not disappointed so far.  Next up, I think, is the Rustic Country Bread.

And I ended that title with a preposition.  I must be desperate.

About a half-hour after I came home and left the bag on the table this is how I found it.  Alice and/or Hugo had managed to get the bag on the floor and had torn apart the toy.  See the stray feather?
