I picked up a ReadyMade magazine recently—-I hadn’t looked at one in a long time. There was a feature with projects from the book “Patchwork Style.” The projects had a modern-ness with a bit of homespun charm. I had to go out and find the book. Alas, the library didn’t have it. So I looked [...]

Inquiring minds want to know.
Yesterday evening Kate and I were sitting outside, chillin’ with an adult beverage, as we frequently do.
We were pondering the sky(because the light had suddenly changed and the clouds were fancy) when my next-door neighbor called down from her lanai: “Hello, ladies.”
We naturally returned the greeting. Then she said that she had to ask me something and [...]

Harry Potter Midnight Release
This is what the line looked like last night at 10:42. We were waiting for the 12:05 show. Yeah, some people got to see it four minutes before we did. I was okay with that—-although that four minutes of sleep this morning might have made a big difference.
The movie was great—-definitely the best HP so far.

Barney, is that chili I smell?
Disclaimer: Cell phone photo taken in the dark.
Remember The Andy Griffith Show episode where Barney was cooking chili on a hotplate in his room at Mrs. Mendelbright’s boarding house? Mrs. Mendelbright was very disappointed in him. In the end he was drunk on hard cider.

Well, I feel [...]

Whale: the biggesy mammal
Around here there is a plethera of Asian snacks. Some I like; some I pass up (dried squid comes to mind).
Today this was on sale at Longs.
Yan Yan. Barely sweet cookie sticks packaged with chocolate in which to dip them.
I haven’t had it in years. Like over 20. You can get them anywhere and I never [...]

My current obsession
Having avocados around pretty much all the time is definitely a perk of living here.
Creamy, yummy goodness. I like them on a chicken sandwich. Yesterday I had leftover roast chicken breast, spinach, avocado and Gruyere cheese on a sandwich and it was crazy good. I like to make guacamole. I like to toss chunks with [...]

Happy July Fourth
I have to say that my Fourth of July was not the most thrilling in history. I would have liked to have gone to the Makawao Rodeo, but it’s nothing I was willing to do by myself, and Kate, who’s always up for the rodeo, was working. For the last few years the only public fireworks display has [...]

Proud to be an American
CRAZY EYEBALLS! Man, are those eyeballs ever crazy.
Do these just scream Independence? I found them in Safeway today. What red-blooded American could pass these up? Who doesn’t feel like setting a few eyeballs on fire on the Fourth of July?
I could possibly expound on how this is a sad commentary on the state of the world, but [...]
