Recuperation

Saturday, I spent the day in Honolulu in the rain, wearing a skirt and sandals, getting wet and cold.  By the time I got to the airport I was tired and freezing.  I dropped Kate off and got on the H-1 freeway right on the edge of campus, so figured that I would gas up at the gas station near the rental car drop-off.  Of course, I get there to find the gas station closed.  So the rental car company charged me their exorbitant (more exorbitant than usual) price for gas.  Boo.

I finally got to the airport and changed into jeans and a hoodie and settled down, expecting to wait about an hour for my flight, and maybe even get on an earlier one.  Nope.  My flight was DELAYED a half hour.  When we landed on Maui we were told that there wasn’t enough ground crew and that there was no one to drive the jetway, so we couldn’t get off the plane!  We sat there for another half-hour.  Boo, again.

So by the time I got home it was pretty late.  My to-do list for Saturday night: take care of the cats, have a snack, watch Saturday Night Live, have a drink. Not necessarily in that order.  I realized that I was out of ice, so I had to run back out to Minit Stop to get some.  What I have to go through for a gin & tonic!  Of course, SNL was a rerun, so I gave up on that half-way through.

Sunday, I decided to focus on recovering from my weekend and harrowing return trip.  I focused very well  on recovering.  Then I engaged in a little therapy:

There’s nothing like a little dough.  Here is what it looked like when it was baked.

Is that not the most beautiful challah you’ve ever seen?  And it was huge.  And it was great with the chicken and rice soup I made and have eaten all week.  And it is good toasted for a bedtime snack.  And it is good toasted in the morning for my breakfast.

I also made a small batch of these babies.  Mini bagels.  Very mini bagels.  Next time a bigger batch of slightly bigger bagels.

Now I’m hungry.

Mmmm, that sure does look good! Are you planning a visit back to Virginia anytime soon? Homemade breads are my downfall.
